Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 14% in December 2020

There were 32 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in December 2020, marking a drop of 14% over the last 12-month average of 37, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in December 2020 with 32 contracts and a 34% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 28 contracts and a 29.8% share and Electricity Procurement with 14 contracts and a 14.9% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 24 contracts and a 75% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and an 18.8% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 3.1% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 3.1% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in December 2020

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 11 contracts with a 34.4% share, followed by thermal with 11 contracts and a 34.4% share and wind with six contracts and an 18.8% share.

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Mapanuepe Hydropower: 500MW from one contract
  2. Korea East-West Power (South Korea), Korea Electric Power (South Korea) and X-ELIO Energy (Spain): 200MW from one contract
  3. Hamek Investment & Construction: 150MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 1,497.8MW from five contracts
  2. East China Electric Power Design Institute (China), Anhui No.1 Electric Power Construction (China) and Anhui No.2 Electric Power Engineering & Construction (China): 1,320MW from one contract
  3. China Energy Engineering Group International Engineering (China): 600MW capacity from one contract.
