Electricity procurement contracts down 14% in June 2021
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

Electricity procurement contracts in June 2021 saw 82 contracts announced, marking a drop of 14% over the last 12-month average of 95, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 78 contracts and a 95.1% share
  2. Project Implementation: three contracts and a 3.7% share
  3. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1.2% share.

North America leads electricity procurement activity in June 2021

Comparing contracts activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 38 contracts and a share of 46.3% during June 2021, followed by Europe with 23 contracts and a 28% share and Asia-Pacific with 15 contracts and an 18.3% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement contracts in June 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 60 contracts with a 72.3% share, followed by wind with 21 contracts and a 25.3% share and hydro with two contracts and a 2.4% share.

Electricity procurement contracts in June 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,300MW from three contracts
  2. Urzad Regulacji Energetyki (Poland): 1,197MW from one contract
  3. Amazon.com (United States): 400MW capacity from one contract.

Electricity procurement contracts in June 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Northland Power (Canada) and Polski Koncern Naftowy Orlen (Poland): 1,197MW from one contract
  2. Acme Solar Holdings Pvt (India): 1,150MW from two contracts
  3. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark) and Greengate Power (Canada): 400MW capacity from one contract.
