Europe power industry contracts activity in November 2020 saw 105 contracts announced, marking a drop of 36% over the last 12-month average of 163, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Europe power industry contracts in November 2020: Germany leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Germany led the activity in November 2020 with 17 contracts and a share of 16.2%, up 8.5% over the previous month and up 55% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the UK with 16 contracts and a share of 15.2% and Spain with 11 contracts and a share of 10.5% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, France held the top spot with 29 contracts, followed by the UK with 16 and Germany with 11 contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in November 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 41 contracts and a 48.8% share, followed by solar with 21 contracts and a 25% share and thermal with six contracts and a 7.1% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Europe as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in November 2020, with 42 contracts, followed by T&D Equipment (22) and Electricity Procurement (18).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 62 contracts and a 59% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 17 contracts and a 16.2% share
  3. Project Implementation: 13 contracts and a 12.4% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 5.7% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 3.8% share
  6. Others: two contracts and a 1.9% share
  7. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1% share.

Power contracts in November 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Orsted (Denmark): 960MW from one contract
  2. Shell Energy Europe (United Kingdom) and SSE Energy Supply (United Kingdom): 480MW from one contract
  3. Novartis (Switzerland): 276MW capacity from four contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Doggerbank Offshore Wind Farm Project one Projco (United Kingdom) and Doggerbank Offshore Wind Farm Project two Projco (United Kingdom): 1,920MW from three contracts
  2. juwi (Germany): 204MW from one contract
  3. Belectric Solar & Battery (Germany): 172MW capacity from one contract.
