Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

There were 25 power plant contracts announced in the Europe region in January 2020, marking a drop of 58% over the last 12-month average of 59, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Europe region in January 2020 with 25 contracts and a 27.8% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 23 contracts and a 25.6% share and Electricity Procurement with 15 contracts and a 16.7% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 14 contracts and a 56% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 24% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 16% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 4% share.

Solar is top technology for Europe power plant contracts in January 2020

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Europe region, solar accounted for 11 contracts with a 44% share, followed by wind with ten contracts and a 40% share and nuclear with three contracts and a 12% share.

Europe power plant contracts in January 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan: 440MW from two contracts
  2. Lundin Petroleum (Sweden): 132MW from one contract
  3. Aquila Capital Group (Russia): 43.2MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 240MW from one contract
  2. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 200MW from one contract
  3. OX2 Group (Sweden): 162MW capacity from two contracts.
