Europe power plant contracts activity down 54% in May 2021

There were 35 power plant contracts announced in the Europe region in May 2021, marking a drop of 54% over the last 12-month average of 76, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Europe region in May 2021 with 35 contracts and a 31.8% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 24 contracts and a 21.8% share and Generation Equipment with 20 contracts and an 18.2% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 24 contracts and a 68.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 17.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and an 11.4% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 2.9% share.

Solar is top technology for Europe power plant contracts in May 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Europe region, solar accounted for 18 contracts with a 50% share, followed by wind with 14 contracts and a 38.9% share and biopower with three contracts and an 8.3% share.

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Neoen (France): 404MW from one contract
  2. NTR (Ireland): 86MW from one contract
  3. Gestore dei Servizi Energetici – GSE (Italy): 73.66MW capacity from 11 contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Vestas Northern and Central Europe (Germany): 404MW from one contract
  2. Kanonaden Entreprenad (Sweden): 86MW from one contract
  3. OX2 (Sweden): 66MW capacity from one contract.
