Power plant contracts down 54% in August 2021

Power plant contracts in August 2021 saw 71 contracts announced, marking a drop of 54% over the last 12-month average of 156, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 56 contracts and a 78.9% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: ten contracts and a 14.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 5.6% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 1.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in August 2021


Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 36 contracts and a share of 50.7% during August 2021, followed by Europe with 14 contracts and a 19.7% share and Middle East and Africa with ten contracts and a 14.1% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in August 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 43 contracts with a 56.6% share, followed by wind with 17 contracts and a 22.4% share and thermal with nine contracts and an 11.8% share.

Power plant contracts in August 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Government of Iraq (Iraq) and Hubei Energy Group Xiangyang Yicheng Power Generation: 2,000MW from one contract
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200MW from four contracts
  3. Tsingshan Holding Group (China): 1,140MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China) and Power Construction Corporation of China (China): 2,000MW from one contract
  2. Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction (China): 1,140MW from one contract
  3. China Energy Engineering Group International Engineering (China) and China Energy Engineering Group Northeast No one Electric Power Construction (China): 860MW capacity from one contract.
