Energy storage contracts up 10% in August 2021

Energy storage contracts in August 2021 saw 23 contracts announced, marking a rise of 10% over the last 12-month average of 21, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 13 contracts and a 56.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: six contracts and a 26.1% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: three contracts and a 13% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 4.3% share.

Asia-Pacific leads energy storage activity in August 2021


Comparing contracts activity in energy storage segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with eight contracts and a share of 34.8% during August 2021, followed by North America with seven contracts and a 30.4% share and South and Central America with three contracts and a 13% share.

Solar is leading technology for energy storage contracts in August 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for ten contracts with an 83.3% share, followed by thermal with one contract and an 8.3% share and wind with one contract and an 8.3% share.

Energy storage contracts in August 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 400MW from one contract
  2. Pacific Gas and Electric (United States): 160MW from two contracts
  3. Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Ecuador (Ecuador): 14.8MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. ReNew Power Ventures Pvt (India): 400MW from one contract
  2. Recurrent Energy (United States): 150MW from one contract
  3. Tata Power Solar Systems (India): 50MW capacity from one contract.
