Power industry contracts in Middle East and Africa for June 2021 up 6%

Middle East and Africa power industry contracts activity in June 2021 saw 34 contracts announced, marking a rise of 6% over the last 12-month average of 32, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Middle East and Africa power industry contracts in June 2021: Saudi Arabia leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Saudi Arabia led the activity in June 2021 with six contracts and a share of 17.6%, up 9.9% over the previous month and up 20% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Iran with four contracts and a share of 11.8% and South Africa with three contracts and a share of 8.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, Saudi Arabia held the top spot with five contracts, followed by Egypt with two and Iran with two contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in June 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 15 contracts and a 71.4% share, followed by thermal with four contracts and a 19% share and wind with one contract and a 4.8% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in June 2021, with 12 contracts, followed by Power Plant (11) and Energy Storage (8).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 16 contracts and a 47.1% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: eight contracts and a 23.5% share
  3. Supply & Erection: seven contracts and a 20.6% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 5.9% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 2.9% share.

Power contracts in June 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Ministry of Electricity, Iraq (Iraq): 2,000MW from one contract
  2. Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (South Africa): 150MW from three contracts
  3. AMEA Power (United Arab Emirates): 50MW capacity from one contract.

Power contracts in June 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 2,000MW from one contract
  2. H1 Holdings (South Africa) and Scatec (Norway): 150MW from three contracts
  3. Jakson (India): 50MW capacity from one contract.
