North America electricity procurement contracts activity down 16% in March 2021
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

There were 21 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in March 2021, marking a drop of 16% over the last 12-month average of 25, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in March 2021 with 21 contracts and a 37.5% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 13 contracts and a 23.2% share and Power Plant with ten contracts and a 17.9% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 18 contracts and an 85.7% share
  2. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 14.3% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement contracts in March 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 11 contracts with a 52.4% share, followed by wind with ten contracts and a 47.6% share.

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Constellation NewEnergy (United States): 191MW from one contract
  2. Valley Clean Energy Alliance (United States): 165MW from one contract
  3. Target (United States): 160MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Enel Green Power North America (United States): 211MW from five contracts
  2. EDP Renewables North America L (United States): 204MW from one contract
  3. Constellation NewEnergy (United States) and Lightsource BP Renewable Energy Investments (United Kingdom): 191MW capacity from one contract.
