North America electricity procurement contracts activity up 5% in Q3 2020
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

There were 69 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in Q3 2020, marking a rise of 5% over the last 12-month average of 66, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q3 2020 with 69 contracts and a 28.3% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 63 contracts and a 25.8% share and Power Plant with 43 contracts and a 17.6% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 60 contracts and an 87% share
  2. Electricity Supply: nine contracts and a 13% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement contracts in Q3 2020

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 53 contracts with a 72.6% share, followed by wind with 15 contracts and a 20.5% share and hydro with two contracts and a 2.7% share.
