North America energy storage contracts activity up 107% in Q2 2020
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

There were 31 energy storage contracts announced in the North America region in Q2 2020, marking a rise of 107% over the last 12-month average of 15, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q2 2020 with 88 contracts and a 31% share, followed by Power Plant with 56 contracts and a 19.7% share and Generation Equipment with 45 contracts and a 15.8% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 16 contracts and a 51.6% share
  2. Supply & Erection: nine contracts and a 29% share
  3. Project Implementation: six contracts and a 19.4% share.

Solar is top technology for North America energy storage contracts in Q2 2020

Looking at energy storage contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 15 contracts with a 100% share.

The top issuers of energy storage contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Southern California Edison (United States): 870MW from eight contracts
  2. Monterey Bay Community Power (United States): 195MW from two contracts
  3. Silicon Valley Clean Energy (United States): 130MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. NextEra Energy Resources L (United States): 585MW from five contracts
  2. 8minute Solar Energy L (United States): 200MW from two contracts
