North America generation equipment contracts activity down 16% in Q1 2020
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

There were 37 generation equipment contracts announced in the North America region in Q1 2020, marking a drop of 16% over the last 12-month average of 44, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q1 2020 with 62 contracts and a 26.8% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 46 contracts and a 19.9% share and T&D Equipment with 43 contracts and an 18.6% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 31 contracts and an 83.8% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 13.5% share
  3. Project Implementation: one contract and a 2.7% share.

Thermal is top technology for North America generation equipment contracts in Q1 2020

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, thermal accounted for 12 contracts with a 33.3% share, followed by solar with 11 contracts and a 30.6% share and wind with five contracts and a 13.9% share.
