Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

North America power industry contracts activity in June 2019 saw 55 contracts announced, marking a rise of 6% over the last 12-month average of 52, according to GlobalData's power database.

North America power industry contracts in June 2019: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in June 2019 with 51 contracts and a share of 92.7%, up 8% over the previous month and up 16% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with two contracts and a share of 3.6% and Mexico with two contracts and a share of 3.6% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 44 contracts, followed by Canada with four and Mexico with two contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in June 2019

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, Solar accounted for the largest proportion with 31 contracts and a 59.6% share, followed by Wind with 16 contracts and a 30.8% share and Thermal with three contracts and a 5.8% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in June 2019, with 24 contracts, followed by Power Plant (15) and Generation Equipment (12).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 23 contracts and a 41.8% share
  2. Project Implementation: 14 contracts and a 25.5% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 12 contracts and a 21.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (United States) with 1,100MW from one contract
  2. NV Energy (United States) with 475MW from one contract
  3. Neoen (France) with 357MW capacity from one contract.

  1. Orsted US Offshore Wind (United States) with 1,100MW from one contract
