North America power industry contracts activity in June 2020 saw 79 contracts announced, marking a rise of 20% over the last 12-month average of 66, according to GlobalData’s power database.

North America power industry contracts in June 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in June 2020 with 73 contracts and a share of 92.4%, down 0.8% over the previous month and up 24% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with five contracts and a share of 6.3% and Mexico with one contract and a share of 1.3% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 59 contracts, followed by Canada with four and Mexico with three contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in June 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 40 contracts and a 66.7% share, followed by wind with 13 contracts and a 21.7% share and thermal with six contracts and a 10% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in June 2020, with 26 contracts, followed by Power Plant (20) and T&D Equipment (14).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 26 contracts and a 32.9% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 25 contracts and a 31.6% share
  3. Project Implementation: 19 contracts and a 24.1% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 7.6% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 2.5% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1.3% share.

Power contracts in June 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Innergex Renewable Energy (Canada): 265MW from one contract
  2. Scout Clean Energy L (United States): 180MW from one contract
  3. The Dow Chemical (United States), Basin Electric Power Coop (United States) and Evergy (United States): 150MW capacity from one contract.

Power contracts in June 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. PCL Constructors (Canada): 285MW from two contracts
  2. 8minute Solar Energy L (United States): 200MW from two contracts
  3. Sterling and Wilson Solar Solutions (United States): 194MW capacity from one contract.
