Power industry contracts in North America for Q2 2019 up 9%

North America power industry contracts activity in Q2 2019 saw 174 contracts announced, marking a rise of 9% over the last four-quarter average of 160, according to GlobalData's power database.

North America power industry contracts in Q2 2019: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in Q2 2019 with 154 contracts and a share of 88.5%, down 3.2% over the previous quarter and up 15% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with nine contracts and a share of 5.2% and Mexico with nine contracts and a share of 5.2% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 134 contracts, followed by Canada with 15 and Mexico with nine contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q2 2019

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, Solar accounted for the largest proportion with 84 contracts and a 52.8% share, followed by Wind with 52 contracts and a 32.7% share and Thermal with 15 contracts and a 9.4% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in North America power contracts activity during Q2 2019, with 68 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (44) and Power Plant (41).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 61 contracts and a 35.1% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 54 contracts and a 31% share
  3. Project Implementation: 39 contracts and a 22.4% share.
