Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

North America power industry contracts activity in September 2019 saw 54 contracts announced, marking a rise of 6% over the last 12-month average of 51, according to GlobalData’s power database.

North America power industry contracts in September 2019: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in September 2019 with 47 contracts and a share of 87%, down 0.9% over the previous month and up 4% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Mexico with five contracts and a share of 9.3% and Canada with two contracts and a share of 3.7% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 45 contracts, followed by Canada with three and Mexico with two contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in September 2019

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 26 contracts and a 47.3% share, followed by wind with 23 contracts and a 41.8% share and thermal with five contracts and a 9.1% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in September 2019, with 24 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (19) and Power Plant (9).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 22 contracts and a 40.7% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 17 contracts and a 31.5% share
  3. Project Implementation: seven contracts and a 13% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 5.6% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 5.6% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 3.7% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. AT&T (United States): 960MW from two contracts
  2. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (United States): 375MW from one contract
  3. American Honda Motor (United States): 320MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Invenergy (United States): 800MW from one contract
  2. Siemens (Germany): 608MW from one contract
  3. 8minute Solar Energy (United States): 400MW capacity from two contracts.
