North America power plant contracts activity down 7% in Q4 2019

There were 38 power plant contracts announced in the North America region in Q4 2019, marking a drop of 7% over the last 12-month average of 41, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q4 2019 with 47 contracts and a 30.7% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 41 contracts and a 26.8% share and Power Plant with 38 contracts and a 24.8% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 28 contracts and a 73.7% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 15.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 7.9% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 2.6% share.

Solar is top technology for North America power plant contracts in Q4 2019

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 19 contracts with a 50% share, followed by wind with 12 contracts and a 31.6% share and thermal with five contracts and a 13.2% share.
