North America power plant contracts activity down 42% in Q4 2020

There were 39 power plant contracts announced in the North America region in Q4 2020, marking a drop of 42% over the last four-quarter average of 67, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q4 2020 with 74 contracts and a 36.3% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 54 contracts and a 26.5% share and Power Plant with 39 contracts and a 19.1% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 32 contracts and an 82.1% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 7.7% share
3. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 7.7% share
4. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 2.6% share.

Solar is top technology for North America power plant contracts in Q4 2020

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 28 contracts with a 71.8% share, followed by wind with seven contracts and a 17.9% share and thermal with two contracts and a 5.1% share.

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

1. Terra-Gen L (United States): 1,118MW from one contract
