North America Solar technology contracts activity drops 3% in Q2 2021

North America solar technology contracts in Q2 2021 saw 110 contracts announced, marking a drop of 3% over the last four-quarter average of 113, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of solar technology contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement with 64 contracts and a 58.2% share
  2. Project Implementation: 28 contracts and a 25.5% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 14 contracts and a 12.7% share
  4. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 2.7% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 0.9% share.

The US tops North America solar power contracts activity

The US was the top country in the North America region for solar technology contracts recorded in Q2 2021 with 98 contracts and an 89.1% share, followed by Canada with eight contracts and a 7.3% share and with two contracts and a 1.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. SB Energy (Japan): 649MW from one contract
  2. AEP Energy (United States): 480MW from one contract
  3. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark) and Greengate Power (Canada): 465MW capacity from one contract.
