Global power industry contracts in April 2021: Wind technology down 52%
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

Wind technology contracts activity in April 2021 saw 52 contracts announced, marking a drop of 52% over the last 12-month average of 109, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 41 contracts and a 77.4% share, followed by Offshore with 12 contracts and a 22.6% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during April 2021 with a 29.1% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 18 contracts and a 34.6% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 16 contracts and a 30.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: seven contracts and a 13.5% share
  4. Project Implementation: six contracts and an 11.5% share
  5. Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 7.7% share
  6. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1.9% share.

Europe leads wind contracts activity in April 2021

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 31 contracts and a share of 59.6% during April 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with nine contracts and a 17.3% share and North America with eight contracts and a 15.4% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with three contracts and a 5.8% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one contract and a 1.9% share.

Wind technology contracts in April 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Taiwan Power (Taiwan): 640MW from one contract
  2. The AES (United States): 322MW from one contract
  3. Invenergy L (United States): 200MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Yunlin Holding (Germany): 640MW from one contract
  2. Elecnor (Spain): 322MW from one contract
  3. IEA Constructors (United States): 200MW capacity from one contract.
