Global power industry contracts in February 2020: Solar technology down 24%

Solar technology contracts activity in February 2020 saw 100 contracts announced, marking a drop of 24% over the last 12-month average of 132, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during February 2020 with a 50.3% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 66 contracts and a 66% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 19 contracts and a 19% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 12 contracts and a 12% share
  4. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 3% share.

Europe leads solar contracts activity in February 2020

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 56 contracts and a share of 56% during February 2020, followed by North America with 14 contracts and a 14% share and Asia-Pacific with 14 contracts and a 14% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with ten contracts and a 10% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with six contracts and a 6% share.

Solar technology contracts in February 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Rajasthan Solarpark Development (India): 925MW from one contract
  2. Solarcentury Holdings (United Kingdom): 500MW from two contracts
  3. Seminole Electric Cooperative, (United States): 298MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. NTPC (India): 925MW from one contract
  2. Proyectos de Instalaciones Electricas (Spain) and China Gezhouba Group International Engineering (China): 500MW from one contract
  3. NextEra Energy (United States): 298MW capacity from one contract.
