Global power industry contracts in June 2020: Solar technology up 11%

Solar technology contracts activity in June 2020 saw 154 contracts announced, marking a rise of 11% over the last 12-month average of 139, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during June 2020 with a 52.6% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 92 contracts and a 59.7% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 40 contracts and a 26% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 18 contracts and an 11.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 1.9% share
  5. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 0.6% share.

Europe leads solar contracts activity in June 2020

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 68 contracts and a share of 44.2% during June 2020, followed by North America with 40 contracts and a 26% share and Asia-Pacific with 32 contracts and a 20.8% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with nine contracts and a 5.8% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with five contracts and a 3.2% share.

Solar technology contracts in June 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 10,000MW from eight contracts
  2. Tenaga Nasional (Malaysia): 490.88MW from five contracts
  3. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 450MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Adani Green Energy (India): 8,000MW from one contract
  2. ib vogt (Germany) and ReNew Power Ventures Pvt (India): 400MW from one contract
  3. SolarPack Corporacion Tecnologica (Spain): 390.88MW capacity from two contracts.
