Global power industry contracts in June 2020: Wind technology up 12%

Wind technology contracts activity in June 2020 saw 95 contracts announced, marking a rise of 12% over the last 12-month average of 85, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 63 contracts and a 66.3% share, followed by Offshore with 32 contracts and a 33.7% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during June 2020 with a 32.4% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 46 contracts and a 48.4% share
2. Power Purchase Agreement: 19 contracts and a 20% share
3. Project Implementation: 14 contracts and a 14.7% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: 12 contracts and a 12.6% share
5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 4.2% share.

Europe leads wind contracts activity in June 2020

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 51 contracts and a share of 53.7% during June 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 22 contracts and a 23.2% share and North America with 13 contracts and a 13.7% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with seven contracts and a 7.4% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with two contracts and a 2.1% share.

Wind technology contracts in June 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Akita Yurihonjo Offshore Wind GK (Japan): 700MW from one contract
2. JSC National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan: 500MW from one contract
3. Lampiris (Belgium): 309MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Kajima (Japan): 700MW from one contract
2. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 500MW from one contract
3. Otary RS (Belgium): 309MW capacity from one contract.
