Global power industry contracts in March 2020: Thermal technology up 11%

Thermal technology contracts activity in March 2020 saw 31 contracts announced, marking a rise of 11% over the last 12-month average of 28, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 20 contracts and a 62.5% share, followed by Coal with eight contracts and a 25% share. Oil stood in third place with four contracts and a 12.5% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during March 2020 with a 12.7% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 15 contracts and a 48.4% share
  2. Project Implementation: ten contracts and a 32.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 9.7% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 6.5% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 3.2% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in March 2020

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 14 contracts and a share of 45.2% during March 2020, followed by North America with eight contracts and a 25.8% share and South and Central America with four contracts and a 12.9% share.

In fourth place was Europe with four contracts and a 12.9% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one contract and a 3.2% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
