Global power industry contracts in May 2020: Wind technology down 34%

Wind technology contracts activity in May 2020 saw 57 contracts announced, marking a drop of 34% over the last 12-month average of 87, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 41 contracts and a 70.7% share, followed by Offshore with 17 contracts and a 29.3% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during May 2020 with a 28.1% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 24 contracts and a 42.1% share
2. Consulting & Similar Services: 11 contracts and a 19.3% share
3. Power Purchase Agreement: nine contracts and a 15.8% share
4. Project Implementation: eight contracts and a 14% share
5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 5.3% share
6. Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 3.5% share.

Europe leads wind contracts activity in May 2020

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 23 contracts and a share of 40.4% during May 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 18 contracts and a 31.6% share and North America with ten contracts and a 17.5% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with five contracts and an 8.8% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one contract and a 1.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 400MW from one contract
2. Continuum Power Trading (TN) Pvt (India): 250MW from one contract
3. Tenaska Clear Creek Wind L (United States): 242MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Renew Solar Power Pvt (India): 400MW from one contract
2. Inox Wind (India): 250MW from one contract
3. M. A. Mortenson (United States): 242MW capacity from one contract.
