Global power industry contracts in May 2020: Hydro technology up 53%

Hydro technology contracts activity in May 2020 saw 23 contracts announced, marking a rise of 53% over the last 12-month average of 15, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, hydro held the fourth position in terms of number of contracts during May 2020 with an 11.3% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Hydro technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: ten contracts and a 43.5% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: eight contracts and a 34.8% share
  3. Supply & Erection: four contracts and a 17.4% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 4.3% share.

Europe leads hydro contracts activity in May 2020

Comparing contracts activity in hydro technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with seven contracts and a share of 30.4% during May 2020, followed by South and Central America with six contracts and a 26.1% share and Asia-Pacific with four contracts and a 17.4% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with three contracts and a 13% share and in fifth place was North America with three contracts and a 13% share.

Hydro technology contracts in May 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Hydro technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. PT Indonesia Dafeng Heshun Energy Industri: 1,200MW from one contract
  2. Dabar Power and Portland General Electric (United States): 160MW from one contract
  3. Puget Sound Energy (United States): 100MW capacity from one contract.
