Global power industry contracts in November 2019: Thermal technology up 54%

Thermal technology contracts activity in November 2019 saw 43 contracts announced, marking a rise of 54% over the last 12-month average of 28, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 35 contracts and a 76.1% share, followed by Oil with seven contracts and a 15.2% share. Coal stood in third place with four contracts and an 8.7% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during November 2019 with an 18.3% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 22 contracts and a 51.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 11 contracts and a 25.6% share
  3. Project Implementation: six contracts and a 14% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 4.7% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 4.7% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in November 2019

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 18 contracts and a share of 41.9% during November 2019, followed by Europe with 12 contracts and a 27.9% share and North America with seven contracts and a 16.3% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with three contracts and a 7% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with three contracts and a 7% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
