Power industry contracts activity in October 2019 saw 312 contracts announced, marking a rise of 10% over the last 12-month average of 284, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry contracts in October 2019: Europe leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 110 contracts and a share of 35.3% during October 2019, followed by South and Central America with 100 contracts and a 32.1% share and Asia-Pacific with 51 contracts and a 16.3% share.

In fourth place was North America with 33 contracts and a 10.6% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with 18 contracts and a 5.8% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 103 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 84.

Wind tops by technology in October 2019

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 119 contracts and a 39.7% share, followed by solar with 105 contracts and a 35% share and hydro with 33 contracts and an 11% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during October 2019, with 194 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (58) and Generation Equipment (52).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 187 contracts and a 59.9% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 54 contracts and a 17.3% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 46 contracts and a 14.7% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 16 contracts and a 5.1% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 1.9% share
  6. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 1% share.

Power contracts in October 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica, Brazil (Brazil): 2,979.17MW from 91 contracts
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,010MW from five contracts
  3. Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (Nepal): 918MW capacity from two contracts.

Power contracts in October 2019: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Siemens (Germany): 1,150MW from two contracts
  2. Power Construction Corporation of China (China): 918MW from two contracts
  3. Harbin Electric (China): 900MW capacity from one contract.
