Global power industry contracts in October 2019: Solar technology down 14%

Solar technology contracts activity in October 2019 saw 105 contracts announced, marking a drop of 14% over the last 12-month average of 122, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of contracts during October 2019 with a 35% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 60 contracts and a 57.1% share
2. Power Purchase Agreement: 31 contracts and a 29.5% share
3. Supply & Erection: 13 contracts and a 12.4% share
4. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1% share.

Europe leads solar contracts activity in October 2019

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 46 contracts and a share of 43.8% during October 2019, followed by Asia-Pacific with 23 contracts and a 21.9% share and South and Central America with 16 contracts and a 15.2% share.

In fourth place was North America with 14 contracts and a 13.3% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with six contracts and a 5.7% share.

Solar technology contracts in October 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 960MW from four contracts
2. Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica, Brazil (Brazil): 530MW from 11 contracts
3. Commonwealth of Virginia (United States): 420MW capacity from one contract.

Solar technology contracts in October 2019: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Dominion Energy (United States): 420MW from one contract
2. Avaada Energy (India), Powertis (Spain), ReNew Power Ventures Pvt (India) and TBEA Energy (India) Pvt (India): 300MW from one contract
3. Proyectos de Instalaciones Electricas (Spain) and Powerchina International Group (China): 296MW capacity from one contract.
