Global power industry contracts in October 2019: Thermal technology down 3%

Thermal technology contracts activity in October 2019 saw 28 contracts announced, marking a drop of 3% over the last 12-month average of 29, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 26 contracts and a 92.9% share, followed by Oil with one contract and a 3.6% share. Coal stood in third place with one contract and a 3.6% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the fourth position in terms of number of contracts during October 2019 with a 9.3% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight contracts and a 28.6% share
  2. Supply & Erection: eight contracts and a 28.6% share
  3. Project Implementation: seven contracts and a 25% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: three contracts and a 10.7% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 7.1% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in October 2019

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with nine contracts and a share of 32.1% during October 2019, followed by North America with six contracts and a 21.4% share and Europe with five contracts and a 17.9% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with five contracts and a 17.9% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with three contracts and a 10.7% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. K-Electric (Pakistan): 900MW from one contract
  2. Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica, Brazil (Brazil): 734.13MW from three contracts
