Global power industry contracts in October 2019: Wind technology up 65%

Wind technology contracts activity in October 2019 saw 119 contracts announced, marking a rise of 65% over the last 12-month average of 72, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 99 contracts and an 83.9% share, followed by Offshore with 19 contracts and a 16.1% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the top position in terms of number of contracts during October 2019 with a 39.7% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 76 contracts and a 63.9% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 20 contracts and a 16.8% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 15 contracts and a 12.6% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 3.4% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 2.5% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 0.8% share.

Europe leads wind contracts activity in October 2019

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 51 contracts and a share of 42.9% during October 2019, followed by South and Central America with 50 contracts and a 42% share and North America with nine contracts and a 7.6% share.

In fourth place was Asia-Pacific with eight contracts and a 6.7% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one contract and a 0.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica, Brazil (Brazil): 1,040.25MW from 44 contracts
  2. Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (United States): 804MW from one contract
  3. NBT (Norway): 750MW capacity from two contracts.

  1. Mayflower Wind Energy (United States): 804MW from one contract
