Global power industry contracts in Q1 2020: Hydro technology up 13%
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

Hydro technology contracts activity in Q1 2020 saw 44 contracts announced, marking a rise of 13% over the last four-quarter average of 39, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, hydro held the fourth position in terms of number of contracts during Q1 2020 with a 5.8% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Hydro technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 12 contracts and a 27.3% share
  2. Project Implementation: nine contracts and a 20.5% share
  3. Supply & Erection: nine contracts and a 20.5% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 13.6% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 13.6% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 4.5% share.

Asia-Pacific leads hydro contracts activity in Q1 2020

Comparing contracts activity in hydro technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 17 contracts and a share of 38.6% during Q1 2020, followed by Europe with 13 contracts and a 29.5% share and North America with seven contracts and a 15.9% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with four contracts and a 9.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with three contracts and a 6.8% share.

Hydro technology contracts in Q1 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Hydro technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Electricite Du Cambodge (Cambodia): 195MW from one contract
  2. Philippines Department of Energy (Philippines): 120MW from one contract
  3. Teck Resources (Canada): 118MW capacity from one contract.
