Global power industry contracts in Q2 2019: Thermal technology down 21%

Thermal technology contracts activity in Q2 2019 saw 74 contracts announced, marking a drop of 21% over the last four-quarter average of 94, according to GlobalData's power industry contracts database.

Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the quarter, accounting for 54 contracts and a 66.7% share, followed by Oil with 14 contracts and a 17.3% share. Coal stood in third place with 13 contracts and a 16% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during Q2 2019 with a 10.8% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 32 contracts and a 43.2% share
  2. Project Implementation: 21 contracts and a 28.4% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 14 contracts and an 18.9% share

  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 2.7% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in Q2 2019

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 22 contracts and a share of 29.7% during Q2 2019, followed by Middle East and Africa with 17 contracts and a 23% share and North America with 15 contracts and a 20.3% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 14 contracts and an 18.9% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with six contracts and an 8.1% share.
