Global power industry contracts in Q2 2020: Hydro technology up 24%

Hydro technology contracts activity in Q2 2020 saw 61 contracts announced, marking a rise of 24% over the last four-quarter average of 49, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, hydro held the fourth position in terms of number of contracts during Q2 2020 with a 6.3% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Hydro technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 28 contracts and a 45.9% share
  2. Project Implementation: 15 contracts and a 24.6% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 12 contracts and a 19.7% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 6.6% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 3.3% share.

Europe leads hydro contracts activity in Q2 2020

Comparing contracts activity in hydro technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 22 contracts and a share of 36.1% during Q2 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 21 contracts and a 34.4% share and South and Central America with nine contracts and a 14.8% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with five contracts and an 8.2% share and in fifth place was North America with four contracts and a 6.6% share.

Hydro technology contracts in Q2 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Hydro technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. PT Indonesia Dafeng Heshun Energy Industri: 1,200MW from one contract
  2. Government of Bhutan (Bhutan): 600MW from one contract
  3. Portland General Electric (United States) and Dabar Power (Bosnia and Herzegovina): 160MW capacity from one contract.

Hydro technology contracts in Q2 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Gezhouba Group (China): 1,520MW from three contracts
  2. Druk Green Power (Bhutan) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (India): 600MW from one contract
  3. Public Utility District No. one of Douglas County (United States): 160MW capacity from one contract.
