Global power industry contracts in Q3 2019: Biopower technology down 18%

Biopower technology contracts activity in Q3 2019 saw 27 contracts announced, marking a drop of 18% over the last four-quarter average of 33, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, biopower held the fourth position in terms of number of contracts during Q3 2019 with a 4% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Biopower technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 16 contracts and a 59.3% share
  2. Supply & Erection: seven contracts and a 25.9% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and an 11.1% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 3.7% share.

Asia-Pacific leads biopower contracts activity in Q3 2019

Comparing contracts activity in biopower technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with nine contracts and a share of 33.3% during Q3 2019, followed by South and Central America with nine contracts and a 33.3% share and Europe with five contracts and an 18.5% share.

In fourth place was North America with three contracts and an 11.1% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one contract and a 3.7% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Biopower technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
