Global power industry contracts in September 2019: Solar technology down 54%

Solar technology contracts activity in September 2019 saw 59 contracts announced, marking a drop of 54% over the last 12-month average of 128, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during September 2019 with a 37.3% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Power Purchase Agreement: 24 contracts and a 40.7% share
2. Project Implementation: 14 contracts and a 23.7% share
3. Supply & Erection: 14 contracts and a 23.7% share
4. Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 6.8% share
5. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 5.1% share.

North America leads solar contracts activity in September 2019

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 26 contracts and a share of 44.1% during September 2019, followed by Asia-Pacific with 16 contracts and a 27.1% share and Europe with ten contracts and a 16.9% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with five contracts and an 8.5% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with two contracts and a 3.4% share.

Solar technology contracts in September 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. AT&T (United States): 800MW from one contract
2. Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 680MW from one contract
3. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (United States): 375MW capacity from one contract.

Solar technology contracts in September 2019: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 830MW from two contracts
2. Invenergy (United States): 800MW from one contract
3. 8minute Solar Energy (United States): 400MW capacity from two contracts.
