Global power industry contracts in September 2019: Thermal technology remain flat

Thermal technology contracts activity in September 2019 saw 28 contracts announced, marking a flat growth over the last 12-month average of 28, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 18 contracts and a 62.1% share, followed by Coal with eight contracts and a 27.6% share. Oil stood in third place with three contracts and a 10.3% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during September 2019 with a 17.7% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 11 contracts and a 39.3% share
  2. Project Implementation: eight contracts and a 28.6% share
  3. Supply & Erection: six contracts and a 21.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 7.1% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 3.6% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in September 2019

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with ten contracts and a share of 35.7% during September 2019, followed by Europe with seven contracts and a 25% share and Middle East and Africa with five contracts and a 17.9% share.

In fourth place was North America with five contracts and a 17.9% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with one contract and a 3.6% share.
