Global power industry contracts in September 2020: Solar technology down 17%

Solar technology contracts activity in September 2020 saw 125 contracts announced, marking a drop of 17% over the last 12-month average of 150, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during September 2020 with a 41.9% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 52 contracts and a 41.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: 41 contracts and a 32.8% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 24 contracts and a 19.2% share
  4. Electricity Supply: five contracts and a 4% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 2.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar contracts activity in September 2020

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 51 contracts and a share of 40.8% during September 2020, followed by North America with 33 contracts and a 26.4% share and Europe with 23 contracts and an 18.4% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with 11 contracts and an 8.8% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with seven contracts and a 5.6% share.

Solar technology contracts in September 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Total (France): 3,300MW from one contract
  2. Societe Nationale d’Electricite (Democratic Republic of the Congo): 1,000MW from one contract
  3. Gmina Puchaczow: 892MW capacity from one contract.
