Global power industry contracts in September 2020: Wind technology up 5%

Wind technology contracts activity in September 2020 saw 99 contracts announced, marking a rise of 5% over the last 12-month average of 94, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 75 contracts and a 75.8% share, followed by Offshore with 24 contracts and a 24.2% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during September 2020 with a 33.2% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 51 contracts and a 51.5% share
2. Power Purchase Agreement: 17 contracts and a 17.2% share
3. Project Implementation: 13 contracts and a 13.1% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: 11 contracts and an 11.1% share
5. Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 4% share
6. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 3% share.

Europe leads wind contracts activity in September 2020

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 47 contracts and a share of 47.5% during September 2020, followed by North America with 23 contracts and a 23.2% share and Asia-Pacific with 19 contracts and a 19.2% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with five contracts and a 5.1% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with five contracts and a 5.1% share.

Wind technology contracts in September 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. New and Renewable Energy Authority (Egypt): 252MW from one contract
2. ACT Government (Australia): 200MW from two contracts
3. Snowy Hydro (Australia): 163.5MW capacity from one contract.

Wind technology contracts in September 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. White Construction (United States): 302MW from one contract
2. Vestas Wind Systems (Denmark): 252MW from one contract
3. Global Power Generation Australia Pty (Australia): 163.5MW capacity from one contract.
