Power plant contracts down 14% in June 2021

Power plant contracts in June 2021 saw 137 contracts announced, marking a drop of 14% over the last 12-month average of 160, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 102 contracts and a 74.5% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 29 contracts and a 21.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 2.9% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 1.5% share.

Europe leads power plant activity in June 2021

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 75 contracts and a share of 54.7% during June 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 35 contracts and a 25.5% share and North America with 12 contracts and an 8.8% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in June 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 93 contracts with a 66.4% share, followed by wind with 30 contracts and a 21.4% share and thermal with ten contracts and a 7.1% share.

Power plant contracts in June 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry of Electricity, Iraq (Iraq): 2,000MW from one contract
  2. SB Energy (Japan): 649MW from one contract
  3. Greengate Power (Canada) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark): 465MW capacity from one contract.

Power plant contracts in June 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 2,457MW from two contracts
  2. Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (China): 1,320MW from one contract
  3. Rosendin Electric (United States): 649MW capacity from one contract.
