Power plant contracts in March 2021 saw 95 contracts announced, marking a drop of 39% over the last 12-month average of 155, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 83 contracts and an 87.4% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: eight contracts and an 8.4% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: three contracts and a 3.2% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1.1% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in March 2021

Comparing contracts activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 65 contracts and a share of 68.4% during March 2021, followed by Europe with 15 contracts and a 15.8% share and North America with ten contracts and a 10.5% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant contracts in March 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 71 contracts with a 75.5% share, followed by wind with 16 contracts and a 17% share and hydro with three contracts and a 3.2% share.

Power plant contracts in March 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200MW from four contracts
  2. Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Malaysia): 823.06MW from 30 contracts
  3. Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 500MW capacity from one contract.

Power plant contracts in March 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 500MW from one contract
  2. JSW Energy (India): 450MW from one contract
  3. Adani Green Energy (India), Ayana Renewable Power Pvt (India) and China Gezhouba Group (China): 300MW capacity from one contract.
