South and Central America Solar technology contracts activity rises 39% in Q2 2021

South and Central America solar technology contracts in Q2 2021 saw 32 contracts announced, marking a rise of 39% over the last four-quarter average of 23, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of solar technology contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement with 14 contracts and a 43.8% share
  2. Project Implementation: ten contracts and a 31.3% share
  3. Supply & Erection: six contracts and an 18.8% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 6.3% share.

Chile tops South and Central America solar power contracts activity

Chile was the top country in the South and Central America region for solar technology contracts recorded in Q2 2021 with 12 contracts and a 37.5% share, followed by Brazil with 11 contracts and a 34.4% share and Honduras with three contracts and a 9.4% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in South and Central America were:

  1. China Development Integration: 1,100MW from one contract
  2. CEME1 (Chile): 480MW from one contract
  3. Atlas Renewable Energy USA (United States): 359MW capacity from one contract.
