T&D project contracts up 17% in March 2020

T&D project contracts in March 2020 saw 27 contracts announced, marking a rise of 17% over the last 12-month average of 23, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 22 contracts and an 81.5% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 14.8% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 3.7% share.

Middle East and Africa leads T&D project activity in March 2020

Comparing contracts activity in T&D project segment in different regions of the globe, Middle East and Africa held the top position with 11 contracts and a share of 40.7% during March 2020, followed by Europe with seven contracts and a 25.9% share and Asia-Pacific with six contracts and a 22.2% share.

Solar is leading technology for T&D project contracts in March 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for five contracts with a 45.5% share, followed by thermal with three contracts and a 27.3% share and wind with three contracts and a 27.3% share.

The top issuers of T&D project contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. RioZim (Zimbabwe): 700MW from one contract
  2. Guyana Power & Light (Guyana): 46.5MW from one contract
  3. PPC Renewables (Greece) and Grupo Generg (Portugal): 30MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Power Construction Corporation of China (China): 700MW from one contract
  2. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 100MW from one contract
  3. Wartsila (Finland): 46.5MW capacity from one contract.
