T&D project contracts up 34% in Q1 2020

T&D project contracts in Q1 2020 saw 86 contracts announced, marking a rise of 34% over the last four-quarter average of 64, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 66 contracts and a 76.7% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 15 contracts and a 17.4% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 4.7% share
  4. Supply & Erection: one contract and a 1.2% share.

Middle East and Africa leads T&D project activity in Q1 2020

Comparing contracts activity in T&D project segment in different regions of the globe, Middle East and Africa held the top position with 29 contracts and a share of 33.7% during Q1 2020, followed by Europe with 24 contracts and a 27.9% share and Asia-Pacific with 17 contracts and a 19.8% share.

Wind is leading technology for T&D project contracts in Q1 2020

Among the technologies, wind accounted for 14 contracts with a 45.2% share, followed by solar with 11 contracts and a 35.5% share and thermal with four contracts and a 12.9% share.

The top issuers of T&D project contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. RioZim (Zimbabwe): 700MW from one contract
  2. Atlas Renewable Energy (Chile): 244MW from one contract
  3. Clean Capital Energie (Austria): 86MW capacity from one contract.
