Are your low-pressure, last stage turbine blades suffering from severe erosion/corrosion and resulting in expensive and timely blade replacements? Are your current wear-resistant coatings becoming undermined or erosion shields becoming detached?
If steam turbine last stage blades are left to suffer erosion, this could eventually lead to a failure in service. This is due to the loss of material and the subsequent stress raisers created. Eventually, causing cracks to initiate and propagate until the stress intensity reaches a critical level – at which point the blade fails.
