Canada’s power industry registered a 6.3% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 6.88% in October 2021 when compared with September 2021.

Out of the power industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 8.96% share in October 2021, recording an increase of 0.23% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s power industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s power industry in October 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 54.35% in October 2021, registering a flat growth over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 15.22% share, a decrease of 36.36% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 10.87%, registering a 150% rise from September 2021.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 10.87%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five power companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 66.67% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s power industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

Ecobee posted 10 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Siemens with 7 jobs and a 133.33% growth. Hydro One with 5 IT jobs and Just Energy Group with 4 jobs, recorded a 37.5% decline and a 33.33% growth, respectively, while Atco recorded a flat growth with 4 job postings during October 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 63.04%, up by 3.57% from September 2021. Mid Level positions with a 23.91% share, registered a decline of 21.43% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 13.04% share, up 100% over September 2021.
