Canada’s power industry registered a 0.6% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.15% in September 2021 when compared with August 2021.

Out of the power industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 8.85% share in September 2021, recording an increase of 0.39% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s power industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s power industry in September 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 53.66% in September 2021, registering a 24.14% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 26.83% share, an increase of 175% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 12.2%, registering a 68.75% decline from August 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 4.88%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five power companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 3.57% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s power industry during September 2021 over August 2021.

Emera posted 11 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 37.5% over the previous month, followed by Hydro One with 8 jobs and a 166.67% growth. Atco with 4 IT jobs and Siemens with 3 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 78.57% decrease, respectively, while Just Energy Group recorded a flat growth with 3 job postings during September 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 60.98%, down by 19.35% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 34.15% share, registered a decline of 12.5% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 4.88% share, down 71.43% over August 2021.
