Biovea Biomass Power Plant, Ivory Coast

Biovea Biomass Power Plant is a 46MW biopower project. It is planned in Comoe, Ivory Coast. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in single phase. The project construction is likely to commence in 2021 and is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2024.

Description

The project is being developed and currently owned by Electricite de France and Meridiam. The company’s ownership stake in the project stands as 40% and 36% respectively.

The project is expected to generate 288GWh electricity to offset 160,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year. The project cost is expected to be around $80.155m.

The process of combustion will be adopted in this project to release the stored energy from the feed. Agricultural by-product will be used as a feedstock to power the project.

The project consists of 2 turbines, each with 23MW nameplate capacity.

Development Status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2021. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2024.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project will be sold to Compagnie Ivoirienne d’Electricite under a power purchase agreement. The power will be sold at the rate of $1kWh for a period of 25 years.
