The project is developed and owned by Maharashtra State Power Generation.
It is a steam turbine power plant. The power plant run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is coal. In case of shortage of coal the plant can also run on Fuel Oil. The fuel is procured from machhakata captive coal mines, durgapur and padmapur collieries.
The project got commissioned in November 1984.
