Cochrane Power Project, Chile

Cochrane Power Project is a 550MW coal fired power project. It is located in Antofagasta, Chile. The project is currently active. It has been developed in multiple phases. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in July 2016.

Description

The project was developed by Empresa Electrica Cochrane. DL Energy and AES Andes are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 40% and 38% respectively.

It is a Steam Turbine power plant. The power plant run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is bituminous coal. In case of shortage of bituminous coal the plant can also run on Sub-bituminous Coal.

The project cost is $1,350m.

The project got commissioned in July 2016.

Power Purchase Agreement

Sierra Gorda SCM and Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande are the power offtakers from the project.

Contractors Involved

POSCO Engineering & Construction was selected to render EPC services for the coal fired power project.

Cochrane Power Project (Cochrane Power Project Unit I) is equipped with Ansaldo Energia RT30 steam turbine. The phase consists of 1 steam turbine.

Cochrane Power Project (Cochrane Power Project Unit II) is equipped with Ansaldo Energia RT30 steam turbine. The phase consists of 1 steam turbine.

Ansaldo Energia supplied TRX-L56, Air-cooled electric generator for the Cochrane Power Project (Cochrane Power Project Unit I).

Ansaldo Energia supplied TRX-L56, Air-cooled electric generator for the Cochrane Power Project (Cochrane Power Project Unit II).

IHI supplied steam boiler for the Cochrane Power Project (Cochrane Power Project Unit I).

IHI supplied steam boiler for the Cochrane Power Project (Cochrane Power Project Unit II).

AES Andes is the O&M contractor for thermal power project, commencing from the year 2016.
